Mrs. King passed away at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas Thursday morning, August 15, 2013.
A native of Hardeman County, she was born June 26, 1929, to J.D. Derryberry and Katherine Elizabeth Daniel and lived in Memphis for 30 plus years and in Lonoke, AR for the past 35 years. A homemaker, she married James E. King on May 31, 1947 and he preceded her in death on April 14, 1979. Mrs. King loved gardening and working in her flowers and dearly loved her children, referring to them as 'her trophies'. She was a member of Greenlaw Baptist Church when she lived in Memphis and was the church pianist there for over 20 years and was a member, pianist and very involved with Panola Missionary Baptist Church in Arkansas.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Talley of Horn Lake, MS, Birdie Phillips and Jimmie King, both of Memphis; a son, Allen King of Reagan, TN; two sisters, Mary Levi of Murfreesboro and Nannie Steadman of Henderson; a brother, Dossie Derryberry of Lonoke, AR; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Webb Barton; two sons, Houston and Henry King; a brother, Ray Derryberry and a grandchild, Timmy Webb.
