Mrs. Mary Jewell Black Fleet, age 97 of Bolivar, passed from this life early Friday morning, November 22, 2013 at Pine Meadows Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Bolivar.
Mrs. Fleet was born September 2, 1916 and raised in the Cloverport community. Her parents were the late Herman Amos Black and Nora Elizabeth Black. She was the fifth of six children and outlived all her siblings. She married the late George Rufus Fleet and moved to Bolivar in 1935 where she lived her entire life.
She worked mostly as a homemaker, but also worked at Harmon Automotive, Bolivar Packing and as a school cafeteria worker. She was a member of the Bolivar Church of Christ and attended church until her illness prevented her from such. She loved children and enjoyed entertaining the children in her neighborhood. She was a very sweet, kind and loving person and always thought of everyone else first above herself.
Survivors include her four children, Barry (Betty) Fleet of Memphis, Jackie Fleet of Bolivar, Connie Maroney of Decaturville, and Fran (Joe) Shelton of Lyles; six grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, George Amos Black, Lucille Kirby Welch, James Alphonso "Hallie" Black, Ewing Pirtle Black and Herman Amos Black, Jr.
