Mary Ruth Surratt

Mary Ruth Hawkins Surratt was born January 20, 1927 in McNairy County, TN the daughter of the late Harrison and Ollie Garner Hawkins. She was united in marriage to Weldon Surratt on March 11, 1944. Mr. Surratt preceded her in death on July 28th 1991.

Mrs. Surratt worked in the folding department at Jetricks Manufacturing before she retired in 1980. She was a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Adamsville, Tennessee, and also attended the Purdy Presbyterian Church and the Court Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Selmer. She also was a fifty year member of the F.C.E. and had put in over four thousand hours in the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary, and was a charter member of Needles and Pins Quilters. Some of her favorite pastimes were going to church, reading, quilting, crocheting, and making teacakes.

Mrs. Surratt departed this life on May 6, 2014 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 3 Months, 16 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Vicki Sullivan and husband Richard of Selmer, TN; a son, Mike Surratt and wife Deb of Middleton, TN; two grandchildren, Greg Sullivan and wife Nichole of Southaven, MS, Mikaela Surratt of Middleton, TN; two great grandchildren, Tyler Sullivan of Southaven, MS, Reece Sullivan of Southaven, MS; a sister-in-law, Nelda Butler, and a brother-in-law, Jamie Surratt.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Surratt was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Surratt; and a sister, Effie Gage.
