Murray Newell Olive was born January 19, 1934 and joined his Savior at his home on March 24, 2015 with his family beside him. He is the youngest child to the late William A. "Arch" Olive and Susan N. Olive. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Mrs. Dois Williams Olive of which he is now happily reunited. In addition, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, W.A. Olive, Jessie D. Olive, Florence Rowsey, Mattie Ruth Baker and Shirley Gurley.
Mr. Olive is survived by his only son James R. Olive (Shelley) of Germantown, TN, two granddaughters Heather Mayden (Greg) of Oakland, TN, Jennifer Trottman (Nick) of Germantown, TN, four great-grandchildren Melody and Allison Mayden and Rett and Nora Trottman. He also leaves behind two sisters, Ms. Bobbie Bagget of Columbia, TN and Ms. Billie Jarnigan of Clinton, MS along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Olive retired as a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railways in 1987. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His "bigger than life" personality, strength, sense of humor, and genuine love for others were a blessing to all whose lives he touched. His passions were gardening, joke and story- telling, woodworking, making friends and spending time with his family. Mr. Olive was a proud Mason and humble student and servant to the Lord. He was an active member of Chewalla Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 26 at 5:30 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, TN with funeral services on Friday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. Brother Richard Doyle will be officiating. Interment to follow at Olive Hill Cemetery in Guys, TN. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Cancer Society, St. Jude Children’s Research hospital or to Chewalla Baptist Church for Jesus Cares.
