Peggy Myrlee Wilkes

March 24, 1923 — March 3, 2018

Peggy Myrlee Wilkes of Selmer, TN, died at Mississippi Care Center in Corinth, MS, on March 3, 2018. She was 94 years old.

Peggy is survived by her only son, Larry Wilkes and wife Anita of Corinth; two granddaughters and their spouses and her six great-grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Elizabeth Cooksey Matlock and her beloved husband L. G.

Peggy was born on March 23, 1923 in Bethlehem, TN. She was the third of six siblings and grew up happy, healthy, and loved. She married Lee George Wilkes on December 22, 1940. Their son, Larry, was born eight years later. Peggy would devote the remainder of her life supporting and caring for these two men as well as the granddaughters and great-grandchildren who would follow.

Throughout the years, Peggy worked to make wherever she was into a home. She worked for J. H. Bigger and Son for many years and never lost the sense of determination that came from working, a trait that served her well through the loss of her husband and her own battles with cancer. She decorated the lives of many with her sense of humor, matter of fact attitude, and her tireless care for those she loved.

Peggy had her own way of doing many things, and the world is better for her unique outlook. If she could leave some thoughts behind, they would be as follows:
Buy good things but never for full price.
Allow people to help you, because you're worth it.
Always keep fresh flowers.
Wrap the presents with the funny papers.
Singing your're favorite song can make a bad day better.
Keep candy in pretty dishes.
Always wear your jewelry.
Take the time to leave everywhere a bit better than you found it.

Peggy, forever the gracious hostess, passed away once her company had left her for the day. She will be missed by all those who loved her so dearly.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Strickland Church of Christ Youth Program
