Preston W. Carroll of Clifton was born April 7, 1927 in Chapel Hill, NC the son of the late Clyde and Mable Pendergrass Carroll. Mr. Carroll died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Waynesboro Health and Rehabilitation Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 87 Years, 6 Months, 25 Days. He was married to Dorothy (Darbo) I. Cole on November 6, 1952. She preceded him in death February 23, 2006. Mr. Carroll, a U.S. Army veteran, was the owner of several business ventures, but was best known for his construction business he owned for several years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Clifton, TN.
He is survived by his children, Preston Cole Carroll of Savannah, TN, Clyde Johnson Carroll of Clifton, TN; Roberta Ann Carroll of Nashville, TN, Dorothy "Jeanie") Cox of Dallas, TX, and Martha "Jane" Omer of Nashville, TN,
15 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and one great grandchild on the way,
two brothers, Daniel W. Carroll of Knoxville, TN and Landon Samuel Carroll of Snowcamp, NC. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Carroll and Robert Braxton (Bobby) Carroll, and a sister, Frances Farlow.
Services will be Monday, November 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Clifton, Tennessee, with Charles McGowan officiating. Burial will follow in the Clifton Cemetery with Shackelford Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements. Family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be given to First Presbyterian Church in Clifton, TN.
Pallbearers are Rex Carroll, Preston W. Carroll, II, Tyler Wertherington, Keith Bumphus, Chip Omer, Jay Cox, and Lee Lacher.
