QUAY PICKETT
Henderson, TN: Nelson Quay Pickett age 77 passed away Monday evening August 3, 2015 at his home.
He was born September 11, 1937 in Chester County, the Sweetlips Community, the son of the late Woodrow Wilson and Bertha D. Moore Pickett. He attended Chester County Schools and married Doris Isbell in 1957. They made their home near Finger for a few years and had lived at Deanburg the past forty years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Chester County Highway Department building and maintaining bridges and right-of-ways. He began work with the Tennessee Department of Transportation in 1975 as a heavy equipment operator, maintaining bridges until his retirement in 1999, retiring as a Superintendent II.
He was an avid hunter, loving the outdoors, hunting deer, turkey, squirrel and raccoons.
He loved his family and all the family called him pop or granddaddy.
He attended New Union Baptist Church at Medon.
Mr. Pickett is survived by his wife, Doris Jean Isbell Pickett of Henderson; a daughter, Rhonda Ann Pickett Privett and husband Larry of Henderson and one granddaughter, Robin Anne Privett; a brother, Terry Lynn Pickett of Milledgeville and three sisters, Carolyn Johnson of South Haven, MS, Freeda Alexander of Milledgeville and Glenda Alexander of Milledgeville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Jenna Elizabeth Privett in 1987 and a brother, E.W. Pickett.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Dr. Danny Hopper and Rhonda Privett officiating and burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday.
