REBECCA VANDIVER DOWDY SKINNER
Medon, TN: Rebecca Adelene Vandiver Dowdy Skinner, age 91 passed away January 27, 2014 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
She was born and reared in Chester County, Sweet Lips community the daughter of the late James Edmond and Hautie Weatherington Vandiver. She attended schools in Chester County. She was married to Carl Dowdy in 1939 and they made their home at Middleton and then Deanburg where they farmed. Mr. Dowdy died in 1982. She was married to L.T. Skinner in 1987. They made their home in Henderson until his death in 1995. She then made her home in the Deanburg Community near her son. Mrs. Skinner was a Baptist.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Dowdy and wife Linda of Medon; two daughters, Doris Jean Howell and husband Bill of Henderson and Carlene Grantham and husband James of Bartlett; five grandchildren, Jimmy Grantham, Trevor Grantham, Shelly Dowdy, Sonya King and Maria Enfinger and a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and one brother, Joe Edward Vandiver of Finger and two sisters, Juanita McBride and husband James L. of Pinson and Reba Faye Taylor and husband Richard of Medina.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, James Loyce Vandiver, Carl Vandiver, Walter Murray Vandiver and Eddie Jr. Vandiver and three sisters, Raymelle Roberts, Kathryn Bromley and Rachel Hudson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 Am Wednesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Bro. Milton Tucker officiating and burial in Old Enon Cemetery at Middleton, TN.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Tuesday.
