Rita Jane Brewer Luna Melton of Waynesboro, TN was born October 13, 1931 in Nashville, TN, the daughter of the late William Walter Brewer, Sr. and Mabel Frances Stricklin Brewer. She was united in marriage to John Thomas Luna in 1949 and he preceded her in death on February 20, 1972. She later married James W. Melton in 1995 and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2008.
Mrs. Melton was a retired clerical worker at Genesco and Lincoln Brass Manufacturing Companies. After retirement, she was a volunteer at a museum in Hohenwald, TN. Mrs. Melton was a member of the First United Methodist Church .
Mrs. Melton departed this life on Monday, August 19, 2013 Wayne Medical Center in Waynesboro, Tennessee at the age of 81 Years, 10 Months, 6 Days. She was preceded in death by a daughter Johnita Luna, a sister, Patsy Brewer Barnett, brothers, Walter Brewer, Jr. and Charles Brewer other than her parents and husbands.
She is survived by a son, Joe Darryl Luna of Parsons, TN; two daughters, Jancy Luna Beckham and Talitha Luna Willard both of Waynesboro, TN; grandchildren, Amber Beckham Stults, Lillian Luna Mucha, Hillary Luna delaRosa, and John Thomas (J. T.) Luna; great-grandchildren, Timothy, Jane Kathryn Grace, and Lilly Stults, McCoy delaRosa, and Kipton and Ella Jane Mucha; a brother, Gene S. Brewer of Nashville, TN; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Whitney Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors, Wayne County, directing. Pallbearers will be Vic Barnett, Charles "Chip" Brewer, Andee Barnett, Robert "Bob" Brewer, Nicky Dixon, Chris Dixon, and Michael Dan Edwards with James Buford Devers serving as a honorary pallbearer.
Visitation will be Wednesday, August 21, 2013 from 6 pm to 9 pm and Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 8 am until 12 noon at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be give to the Waynesboro First United Methodist Church; First United Methodist charity fund; First United Methodist Church choir or First United
Methodist Church UMW Club.
