Robert Gene Paulk

Robert Gene Paulk was born on October 3, 1934 in Hardin County, the son of the late James and Emma Higgins Paulk, who preceded him in death.

On November 26, 1976, he was united in marriage to Marie Horton Paulk.

Mr. Paulk was a retired US Air Force Master Sergeant. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and served for a period of twenty years retiring in 1974. He was stationed at Air Force bases in Texas, Nevada, Tennessee, Alaska, Virginia, Florida, France, and Easter Island, Chile. He was an administrative supervisor and for the last eleven years of service was assigned to the Air Force Technical Applications Center headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. He served at the headquarters and subordinate units in Alaska and Chile. This organization’s mission was the operation of the US Atomic Energy Detection System which monitored the nuclear capability of Russia, China, France, India and other countries developing nuclear weapons.

Following retirement from the Air Force he returned to Savannah. He was employed by the US Postal Service in 1977 and for the next twenty years served as a postal carrier and clerk at the Savannah Post Office. He was the local American Postal Workers Union Stewart for ten of the twenty years employed by the Post Service. He retired from the Postal Service in 1997.

Mr. Paulk was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savannah, Savannah Masonic Lodge 102, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry (32nd degree), of Corinth, Mississippi, Al Chymia Shrine Temple of Memphis, and the Pickwick Shrine Club of Hardin and McNairy Counties. He had served in the offices of President and Secretary of the Pickwick Shrine Club and was active in their annual Hospitals Benefit Drive raising funds for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. He was also a member of the Air Force Association.

Mr. Paulk departed this life on November 30, 2014, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

In addition to his wife Marie, he is survived by two children Donna Paulk Wilkes and husband Kevin of Savannah; John A. Paulk of Pickwick; one sister Carolyn Paulk Strobl of Houston, Tx.; and five grandchildren: Bethany Wilkes, Jennah Wilkes, Callianne Paulk, Halle Grace Paulk, and Elijah Paulk; nephews James W. Paulk, Robert A. Paulk and Thomas J. Paulk; and one niece Laura Ann Paulk Gipson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Janey Vinson Paulk and brother, William J. Paulk.

Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital or to the Darryl Worley Foundation.
