Luray, TN: Roger Larry Rhodes, age 71, passed away at his home near Jacks Creek Saturday morning, May 5, 2018.
Mr. Rhodes was born and reared at Luray, the son of the late James Hulon and Georgia Lois Farrow Rhodes. He attended Chester County schools. He had worked as a machinist for over 40 years at International Paper Company in Jackson. He married Chris (Christine) Bradford Garner in 1980 and they made their home at Luray. Mr. Rhodes enjoyed being on a tractor and fishing. He raised exotic animals, donkeys, goats, and miniature horses. He was owner and operator of Hwy 22A Speedway. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Christine Bradford Rhodes of Luray; five daughters, Jamie Ballard (John) of Luray, Anna Dayhuff (Shaune) of Luray, Kim Alexander (Tracey) of Luray, Cathy Ferguson (Tommy) of Jackson and Carol Emison (Jeff) of Jackson, a son, Dean Garner (Jean) of Jackson, a sister, Donette Ada (Tommy) of Homer, IL, 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David Garner in 2017.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors, East Main Chapel, with Dr. James Huggins officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery at Jacks Creek.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday.
