Ruel McGarity, Jr. departed this life on June 13, 2015 in his home in Sardis, Tennessee at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 25 days. He was born in Morris Chapel, Tennessee on October 19, 1934, son of the late Ruel Edgar and Myrtle Ester Carlyle McGarity.
Ruel was employed at General Motors Corporation in St. Louis, Missouri as an assembly line operator and a janitorial engineer. He was also a member of the National Rifle Association, United Automobile Workers, and the Masonic lodge. In addition to Sardis, Tennessee, Ruel also lived in St. Louis, Missouri and Hazelwood, Missouri.
Ruel was very generous with his family and some of his last thoughts were for his brothers and sisters. He was also a hardworking man who loved to play guitar and sing country music with his friends and relatives.
Mr. McGarity is survived by his children, Deborah Arlene McGarity Freshwater of O'Fallon, Missouri, Treasa Ann McGarity of Troy, Illinois, and Sherry Lee McGarity Seitz of Sardis, Tennessee; siblings, Joy Brewer of St. Louis, Missouri and Freddie McGarity of Cahokia, Illinois; sister-in-law, Willie Kay McGarity; grandchildren, Amanda Maria Anglin-Harris, Daniel Doyle, Laura Doyle-Holt, Samuel Alan Majkut, Desiree I. Freshwater, and Lyla Freshwater; and great-grandchildren, Mykayla Nicole Harris, Jeffery Dean Harris, Mary Beth Whitley, Akala Holt, Daryle Holt, Jr., and Carter Joseph Russell.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Audrey Inez Hefner; and siblings, Harvey McGarity, Ruby McGarity, and Marion McGarity.
