RUTH RAINEY

Milledgeville, TN: Ruth Davis Rainey age 84 passed away Sunday October 12, 2014 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.

She was born in Hardin County and reared in Chester County, the daughter of the late Robert and Effie Kelly Davis. She went to school in Chester County and graduated Chester County High School in 1948. She married J.W. Rainey Sept. 16, 1950 of the Center Point Community in Chester County. They made their home in the Center Point Community for 64 years. She began working at Brown Shoe Company in Savannah right out of high school and worked in the garment industry over 35 years. Mrs. Rainey also worked for the Chester County Bank in her later years. While at Chester County Bank she enjoyed meeting old and new friends. Mrs. Rainey retired from the bank after 30 years. Mrs. Rainey was Methodist in her beliefs.

She was a member of the International Lady Garment Union serving as Vice Chairman at Harwood Corporation. She was a member of the Chester County Home Demonstration Club. She loved gardening and won first prize for her gardening skills.

She is survived by her husband, J.W. Rainey of Adamsville; a son, Terry Rainey and wife Samantha of Adamsville; two grandchildren, Wesley Albert Rainey and Karenna Caralee Rainey; a sister, Ruby Lee Snyder of Tupelo, MS.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Royce Davis, Roy Davis and Robert E. Davis.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in Memphis.

Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Rev. Zolon Clayton and Les Keen officiating and burial will follow in Milledgeville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Thursday.
