Shrilda Howell Stamey, 98, of Middleton passed away at her home on Friday, June 2, 2017.
A native of Middleton, she lived all of her life in Hardeman County, Mrs. Stamey was born Thursday, March 13, 1919 to John Thomas Howell and Hattie Pipkin Howell, both of whom preceded her in death. On Friday, January 11, 1946, she was united in marriage to Miriam King "Mum" Stamey in Brownfield, MS. They were married 37 years before his death on Thursday, July 28, 1983.
Mrs. Stamey worked in the dietary division at Western Mental Health Institute in Bolivar for many years. She also had worked at the garment factory in Somerville. She was Baptist in her belief.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two nephews whom she raised, Tiny and Buddy Thornton; two sisters, Othel Smith of Jackson and Minnie Vincent of Walnut, MS; and seven brothers, Willie, Alfred, Elbert, Clifford, Curtis, Rayford and Charles Howell.
She leaves numerous nieces and nephews. Two nephews she raised, Lavern Thornton of Florida and Jimmy Thornton of Nashville, also survive.
