Teddie Overton, age 83, of Waynesboro, TN departed this life on Thursday, January 11, 2018. He was the son of the late Thomas and Daisy Ona Templeton Overton of Clifton.
Teddie spent most of his adult life working on the Inland Waterways. At the age of 17, he started as a deckhand on the Tennessee River and retired, after more than 54 years, as a captain on the Mississippi River. He served his country with the United States Army in South Korea from 1956 to 1958. Teddie was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Clifton, TN. Though nothing gave him more joy than his family, his love of running his Beagles, trading cars, hunting and fishing (and frying those fish for his friends and family) came a close second.
In addition to his parents, Teddie was preceded in death by his daughter Lecia Overton, son Russ Davidson, sisters Bonnie Skelton, Louise Stricklin, Guyula Brown and brothers, Eddie, Jack, Walter and Nathanael Overton.
He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Carole Ann Waters Overton and his children Wileda Hammack, Sissy Overton, NaDarai Kimball, Amy Sawyer, Jana (Mike) Haughey and Doug (Regina) Davidson. He is also survived by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored their Granddaddy; Daniel (Lesley) Sawyer, Alecia (Brandon) Johnson, Tres Kimball, Carrie Ann Sawyer, D.J. (Ashley) Hammack, Kiriar Kimball, Matthew Haughey, Sarah Haughey, Ian Davidson, Jonathan Sawyer, and Autumn Davidson; great-grandchildren Camden and Deklen Johnson, Brooklyn Hammack, and McKinley and Bowen Sawyer.
