Terry William Prater was born in Hohenwald, Tennessee, on January 3, 1959, to Collins (Blue) and Dorothy Sue Lineberry Prater, who survive. Raised in Clifton, Tennessee, on the banks of the beautiful Tennessee River, he graduated from Frank Hughes High School in Clifton in 1977. He married his one true love, Debbie Dean “Fickle” Prater on November 19, 1984, and they have shared a very adventurous life together. Having moved to the Austin, Texas, area over 20 years ago, he was the proud owner of his auto painting business named Prater Automotive DBA Colors on Parade of Austin. He loved barbecuing and grilling and has won numerous cooking competitions. He was also a Jack Daniels squire and avid Jack Daniels and gun collector. He was calm, patient, easy going, a good listener, and a friend to many. One of his favorite hobbies was spending time with his family. He departed this life on April 17, 2018, at his home in Dripping Springs, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by his three beautiful daughters, all of Texas: Amanda Lou Prater, Kelly Prater Thompson (Kyle), and Tracy Prater Gray (A. J.). Grandchildren include Peyton Gray, Hayden Thompson, Jaxon Gray, and another grandson who is due in August. Siblings include Jimmy Prater (Judy) of Waynesboro, Tennessee, Greg Prater (Debbie) of Clifton, Tennessee, and Julie Prater Denton (Jimmy) of Clifton, Tennessee. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents William and Laura Griffin Prater, maternal grandparents Fred and Macie Inman Lineberry, and infant granddaughter Addison Thompson.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Riverside United Methodist Church, Clifton, Tennessee, with Josh Layne officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Methodist Church Cemetery, Clifton, Tennessee with Shackelford Funeral Directors of Wayne County in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 21, 11:00 am until service time @ Riverside United Methodist Church, Clifton.
