VERNIE PIERCE
Enville, TN: Vernie Naomi Pearl Green Pierce age 86 passed away Thursday morning June 8, 2017 at VanAyer Healthcare in Martin, TN.
She was born August 15, 1930 in Henderson County and grew up in Chester County, the daughter of the late Marvin Henderson and Exie Pearl Melton Green Brewer. She attended schools in Chester and Shelby Counties. She was married to Athel Leon Pierce in 1948. They made their home in Enville most of their married life, where Mr. Pierce was a truck driver for Ligon Specialized Haulers. She worked for nineteen years at MKD Manufacturing at Enville.
Mr. and Mrs. Pierce and their girls sang as the Pierce family at local churches and funerals. She was a former member of the Enville United Pentecostal Church and was very active in the work of the church having taught Sunday school and ladies ministries of the church. At time of death she was a member of the Martin First United Pentecostal Church.
She had made her home near two of her daughters at Martin, TN since 2005.
Mrs. Pierce is survived by four daughters, Cynthia Grimsley and husband Travis of Jackson, Sylvia Spencer and husband Wayne of Martin, Shirley Droke and husband Walter of Hohenwald and Carol Tucker and husband Edward of Gadsden, AL and a son, Stephen Pierce of Oxford, MS; nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren and a sister, Jo Nell Griffin and husband Sam of Pine Bluff, AR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Athel Leon Pierce in 1984 and a brother, Thurman Green.
Funeral services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Casey Chapel with Travis Grimsley, Wayne Spencer and Walter Droke officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery at Enville, TN.
The family will receive friends at Casey Chapel 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday and 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM Saturday.
