Victor J. Harrod

Victor J. Harrod, Sr. departed this life on January 20, 2015 at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 2 days. He was born on November 18, 1934, son to the late Victor Lee and Lydia Margaret Biggert Harrod. He was united in marriage to Carol A. Leigh on August 7, 1982, who survives.

Mr. Harrod was a retired United States Army veteran who served as Sergeant First Class. During his military service, he served as the coach for the 1968 Olympic Pentethelon Mexico City Olympics in 1979. He was awarded the Distinguished Expert Gold Medal for Marksmanship at Fort Hood, Texas and also received the Excellence in Competition match in the Texas State Pistol Championship in San Antonio in 1979. He couragously served his country for a total of 21 years.

Victor lived for ten years in the Adamsville, Tennessee area. He enjoyed painting, reading, boxing, and football. He also enjoyed writing poems and was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kristy Wymore and John Harrod of New Braunfels, Texas, Jeffrey Harrod of Omaha, Nebraska, and Victor Harrod of Alcutan, Alabama; two step-children, Joseph Butcher and his wife Karen of Buena Vista, Colorado and Thomas Butcher and his wife, Amanda of Bennington, Nebraska; one sister, Jeanette Martin and her husband, Arnie, of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, Kari Wolnik, Myranda Ott and her husband, Devan, Trisha Kent and her husband, Zak, Harrison and Sylvie Jane Butcher; and great-grandchildren, Lindsey Wolnik, Dominc, Drake, and Dannielle.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, Marge Yochum, Donna Jean, and Dorothy Monroe; and grandchild Kevin Wolnik.
