Virgie Etheridge was born September 11, 1916 in Selmer, TN the daughter of the late Willie Denton and Flora Baker McNatt. She was united in marriage to Charles Etheridge on February 24, 1945. Mr. Etheridge preceded her in death on August 22, 2001.
Mrs. Etheridge was a graduate of Lambuth College in Jackson, TN. She was a retired Elementary School Teacher with the McNairy County Board of Education. In her early teaching career, she taught at several one-room country schools in McNairy County. She was a member of the McNairy County Retired Teachers Association. Between teaching, she and Charles lived in Memphis where she worked at the Army Supply Depot during World War Two.
Mrs. Virgie was a member of 4th Street church of Christ in Selmer. She loved going to church as long as she was able and read her Bible every day. She enjoyed cooking for her family. At Christmas, she would make batches of fudge to give to various individuals in the community.
Mrs. Etheridge departed this life on February 2, 2016 at her home in Selmer at the age of 99 Years, 4 Months, 22 Days. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Wilkerson of Selmer, TN; a grandson, Chuck Wilkerson of Selmer; a grt-granddaughter, Jayla Blaine Wilkerson; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Etheridge, and Chuck's father, Ronnie Wilkerson.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Etheridge was preceded in death by a son, Larry Neal Etheridge; a sister, Mary Lessie Clayton; a brother, U. D. McNatt along with two infant brothers.
