Virginia Ann Pickens was born on April 26, 1929, in Milledgeville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Willie Louis and Mattie Reba Stafford Hughes. On August 27, 1949, she was united in marriage to Clarence D. Pickens, who preceded her in death on May 21, 2004.
Mrs. Pickens was born in Milledgeville, Tennessee and later moved to Morris Chapel and eventually to Adamsville. She worked for the Brown Shoe Company and later became a self-employed Avon sales lady for 50 plus years. At one time, she was a member of the Milledgeville United Methodist Church and after moving to Adamsville, she joined the Adamsville Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Pickens is better known at the "Avon Lady." She enjoyed meeting new people, so she enjoyed her work and loved all of her clients. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, and watching television; she loved her family.
Mrs. Pickens departed this life on January 11, 2014, at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 16 days.
She is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Gibbs and her husband, David of Adamsville, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Brook Allen, Zach Gibbs, Amanda Edge, Kelly Browder, Rhonda Sharp, and Christy Shannon; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bobby Phillips, and her husband, Jimmy of Milledgeville, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents, Wid and Reba Hughes, and her husband, Clarence, she was preceded in death by her children, Lanny Newman, Billy Brooks and Kim Pickens; two brothers, R. C. Hughes and Larry Hughes and one grandchild, Kimberly Browder.
