WALLACE BATES
Henderson, TN: Wallace Bates age 77 passed away March 12, 2015 at his home.
He was born January 3, 1938 in Centerville, TN the son of the late Harrell and Mattie Wiley Bates. He attended school in Centerville and married Eva Rice on August 11, 1973. They made their home in Chicago until 1978 when they moved to Henderson. They owned and operated the Chow Wagon in Henderson since 1978. Wallace enjoyed wood working and made all of the menu boards at the Chow Wagon. He was a Baptist in belief. He also enjoyed the race track, gardening, his family and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Rice Bates of Henderson; three daughters, Marilyn Kovarik of Kansas City, KS, Anita Stewart of Katie, TX and Melissa Dickey of Bethel Springs and a son, Bo Bates of Henderson; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Sara Marrelles of Memphis, Barbara Richardson of Corinth and Liz Antalek of Chicago, IL and two brothers, Larry Bates of Henderson and Jimmy Bates of Corinth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jackie Bates.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Sunday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Johnson Chapel with Jimmy Bates officiating and burial will follow in Anderson Bend Cemetery at Centerville, TN.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Chapel 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Saturday.
