Agnes Eva McGuire Burleigh Handley

December 6, 1921 — March 17, 2015

Agnes Burleigh Handley went home to the Lord March 17, at Hardin Medical Center Health and Rehabilitation. She was born December 6, 1921 in Frederick, Michigan to Frank and Minnie McGuire. Agnes was very proud of her German-Irish roots and strict Catholic upbringing. She graduated high school at St. Michael's school in 1940. When WWII broke out, Agnes worked in a government ammunition and arms factory earning the title of "Rosie the Riveter." In 1946 she became the bride of George Burleigh and made their home in the Flint Michigan area. They became the parents of two sons, Robert and Michael Burleigh, and daughter, Coleen. In 1973, George passed away and Agnes stayed busy with various jobs, her church, and enjoying her family.

In 1989, Agnes married Rex Handley and moved to Savannah, Tennessee, embracing Rex's family as her own. Agnes and Rex traveled in all the continental United States after their retirement and enjoyed their cabin on the Tennessee river and boating, fishing, and entertaining family. She was an avid reader and visited the Hardin County Library often to get a good mystery. She loved to be with her church family at St. Mary's Church and with her family at home.

She is survived by her husband, Rex Handley; her children, Robert and wife, Sharon, of Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael and wife, Evelyn, of Flint, Michigan, and Coleen and husband, John Batson, of Flint. Her loving grandchildren are Jeannie Newton, Pam Herrick, Robin Evette Brown, Bobbie Van Duser, Michael Burleigh, Marcia Shelton, Paul Shelton, and Andrea Casale. Many great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren, a host of in-laws and other relatives and friends.
