Arlen E. Cox, 99, of Hornsby, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at Bolivar General Hospital.

The widower of Annie Elizabeth "Sissy" Cox, whom he married on January 1, 1939, he was a farmer. Mrs. Cox preceded him in death on March 6, 2015 after 76 years of marriage. He also had worked at Brown Shoe for 15 years and was a supervisor with the State Highway Deparement for 14 1/2 years. He was born on March 3, 1919, in Silerton, son of the late W. M. and Fronie Parson Cox and lived in the county most of his life, except for a few years in Covington. He enjoyed training and selling beagle and fox hounds, and gardening tomatoes, which he sold to local grocery stores. Mr. Cox was a member of Hornsby Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Coleman Cox of Covington; a son in law, David Lowry of Bolivar; and a grandson, Grant Lowry of Bolivar. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Gaylon Lynn Cox Lowry in 2011; a sister, Hazel Sexton and 2 brothers, Marvin and Wendell Cox.
