ARVY KING LEDBETTER
Henderson, TN: Arvy King Ledbetter age 83, passed away January 21, 2019 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was born September 28, 1935 in Henderson, TN the only son of Arvy Glen and Wilma King Ledbetter. He was raised in Henderson where he graduated from Chester County High School in 1953. He attended Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN and Union University in Jackson, TN.
Arvy proudly served in the Tennessee National Guard as First Lieutenant from 1954–1966. He began his career in the auto industry serving fifty years with Jim Miles, Inc. as General Manager. He owned and operated two businesses in Jackson, TN and served as a realtor in the Jackson and Henderson area. He was a former member of the Jackson Lions Club serving as club president and board member.
In 1958, he was united in marriage to Ruth Phillips and they resided in Henderson. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Henderson.
He was a history buff and loved all things related to geography. His sense of humor endeared him to others. His interests included watching football, traveling, reading, boating, relaxing outdoors, cooking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was extremely proud of his family.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ledbetter of Henderson, one daughter Lisa Johnson and husband Greg Johnson of Chapin, SC, two grandchildren Payton Johnson and Grayson Johnson of Chapin, SC.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Kayla Lynn Johnson.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Friday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Ken Frye, Troy Kilzer II, Jimmy Dyer and Lisa Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 8 PM on Thursday.
