Barbara K. Blanton, 86, of Whiteville, passed away Friday, May 15, 2020 at NHC Healthcare Center in Somerville.
The widow of Charles Gordon Blanton, who died on February 25, 2017 after almost 67 years of marriage, she was a homemaker and farmer. She was born Sunday, September 17, 1933 in Whiteville, daughter of the late Clifford Eugene Keller and Hazel Bowman Keller and lived most of her life in this area, except for the years she supported her husband in his military service, traveling around the country. She was a graduate of Whiteville High School and was very intelligent, reading 3 to 4 books a day. Mrs. Blanton was a member of First Baptist Church in Whiteville, where she played the piano and organ.
Graveside services were Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Crowder Cemetery near Whiteville with Bill Wernet officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar were in charge of professional arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Kel (Sherry) Blanton of Somerville and Dana Blanton of Whiteville; two grandchildren, Andy Simons (Brandy) of Whiteville and Mike Simons (Jacque) of Somerville; and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Keller Whaley. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to the First Baptist Church in Whiteville or the charity of the donor's choice.
