Bear Chambers was born September 20, 1928 in Adamsville, TN the son of the late James Carl and Mary Lou Evans Chambers.
Bear was united in marriage to Nell Jones on July 25, 1953. Mrs. Chambers preceded him in death on November 2, 1990, following 37 years of marriage.
He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 – 1953. After returning from Korea, Bear worked at the McNairy County Board of Education, farmed with his son Jeff and owned and operated the Chambers Grocery Store in the Gilchrist Community. He enjoyed telling stories, coon hunting, fishing, farming, camping and sitting on his back porch.
Bear departed this life on June 14, 2021 in Corinth, Mississippi at the age of 92 years, 8 months, 25 Days. He is survived by three grandchildren: Mahlon Hellman and husband Mark of Hendersonville, TN, Dexter Chambers and wife Carrie of Gallatin, TN, and Dustin Chambers of Salt Lake City, UT; three great grandchildren: Marlee Lynn Hellman and Manning Lake Hellman, both of Hendersonville, TN, and Denton Bear Chambers of Gallatin, TN; a sister, Jo Ann Hughes of Michie, TN; a daughter-in-law, Sheryl Glidewell Chambers; and special friend, Nancy Wade.
In addition to his wife and parents, Bear was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Chambers; three brothers: Warren G. Chambers, James Robert (J. R.) Chambers, and Glenn Abernathy (Abb) Chambers; and four sisters: Willa Mae Chambers Thomas, Alene Chambers Pettigrew, Mildred Chambers Wigginton, and Audrey Chambers Dowty.
