BETTYE LOU PARKER BECKHAM
Departed this life on August 18, 2020 at the age of 89. Bettye was born in the White’s Creek community of Hardin County on May 28, 1931 to the late Washington Lafayette Parker and Mabel Etta Abrams Parker. Bettye graduated from Savannah High School in 1949. On December 23, 1950 she was united in
marriage to James Hassel Beckham who preceded her in death on December 17, 1974. Bettye was a member of the Red Bank Church of Christ at the time of her passing and was previously a member of the Savannah Church of Christ (42 years) and the Donmoyer Church of Christ in Indiana (24 years).
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. After Hassel passed away in Indiana she moved back to Savannah. She decided to go back to school in her late 40’s and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1980. After completing the LPN program she worked for many years at
Hardin County Hospital.
Bettye enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing vegetables, her beautiful flowers and hosting numerous friends to her homemade soup and cornbread luncheons. Those invited to the luncheons sat around the long table that her brother-in-law J.W. Beckham had built.
Bettye loved telling everyone about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and showing their latest pictures. She also loved talking to her many family members and church friends.
Bettye is survived by two sons, Mark Beckham (Jan) of Chattanooga, Tennessee and David Beckham (Tina) of Nashville, Tennessee , five grandchildren Brett Beckham (Brittney) of Jackson, Tennessee, Blake
Beckham (Blair) of Jackson, Tennessee, Katie Beth Beckham of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Jessica Beckham of Nashville, Tennessee and Kathryn Beckham of Nashville, Tennessee and four great grandchildren Jazlyn Beckham, Lila Beckham, Scarlett Beckham and Bowen Beckham all of Jackson, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
