Edward Lee "BIG ED" Burns was born November 4, 1952 to the late George and Mammie Bailey Burns. He departed this life on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Hardin Medical Center after a long illness.
Ed received his education at Central High School here in Savannah. He worked 26 years at Hardin Medical Center and 30 years at Pizza Hut.
The people of Savannah loved for Ed to deliver their pizza to them and he in turn loved to deliver pizza. He always had a kind word and warm smile to everybody he came in contact with.
On August 19, 1972 he married Shirley Ann Casey and to this union two children were born.
"Big Ed" leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Shirley Ann Burns of Savannah, Tennessee, one son, Quentin Burns also a Savannah and one daughter, Belinda Ann Bernard, 1st Sergeant of the United States Army stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado and his son in law, Timothy Bernard 1st Sergeant of the United States Army also stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado
9 grandchildren: Jacob Burns, Aierel Watson, Aaron Watson, Jaron Burns, Jada Burns, Bailey Burns, Brandon Burns, Kaden Burns and Tristian Burns.
2 great grandchildren: Ezebella and Hendrix Burns
2 sisters: Mary Weatherspoon of Marietta, Georgia and Gertrude Pitts of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
1 brother: Freddie Burns of Milwaukee, Wisconsin
5 sisters in law: Marion Yarbro, Denise Bumphus, Mary Jo Weatherspoon, Sandra Price and Jo Ann Burns
4 brothers in law: Ronnie Casey, Ben Casey, Jerry Casey and J. A. Pitts
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by 2 sisters: Georgia Hollingsworth and Jo Ann Weatherspoon and 1 brother, William James Bailey
A dear friend, Larry Alexander and all his grandchildrens' mothers
A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss "Big Ed" also.
