Birdie Benson Steakley was born on December 6, 1933 in Hardin County, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Charlie and Fannie Hurley Benson.
Birdie was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennessee. She worked for Savannah Truck Stop, Wolfe's Restaurant, Shaw's Restaurant, Jerry's Restaurant, and Christopher's Restaurant. She enjoyed cross-stitching and cooking.
Birdie Benson Steakley departed this life on October 20, 2021 in Pulaski, Tennessee at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 14 days.
She is survived by her son, Donnie Michael and his wife Pat of Savannah, Tennessee; sisters, Rosie Kelly of Savannah, Tennessee and Louise Kelly of Tupelo, Mississippi; grandchildren, Amanda Johnson, Joey Morris, Jeremy Michael, and Cindy Inman; and great grandchildren, Madison Inman, Michael Morris, Layla Arnold, Zach Johnson, Reagan Michael, Makenley Michael, and Aubree Inman.
In addition to her parents, Birdie was preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Morris; brothers, Albert Benson and Edward Benson; sisters, Charlene Jones and Bonnie Durham; and one infant sibling.
