Mr. Mayes died Saturday, December 9, 2017 at MidSouth Health and Rehabilitation in Memphis.
A native of Hickory Flat, MS, he was the son of the late Bilbo and Pauline Mayes and lived most of his life in the Saulsbury community of Hardeman County. He had been a resident of Memphis for 20 years. Mr. Mayes was a 1958 graduate of Grand Junction High School and worked as a farmer and mechanic. In the early 1960's, he served his country as a member of the US Army stationed in Germany. He was Baptist in belief and in his leisure time enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.
He leaves his son, Marc (Sheila) Mayes of Saulsbury; two grandchildren, Robert Marcus Mayes, Jr. and Shelby Renee' Mayes, both of Saulsbury; two sisters, Bonnie Johnson of Saulsbury and Paula (David) McAlpin of Grand Junction; one brother, Ralph (Barbara) of Saulsbury; his companion of over 20 years, Tommie Bryson of Saulsbury; two nieces and three nephews.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, J. C. and Harold Mayes.
