Bobby Joe Cherry was born on August 28, 1934 in Savannah, Tennessee, the son of the late Floyd and Winnie Austin Cherry.
On January 21, 1970, he was united in marriage to Helen Jean Franks, who preceded her husband in death on March 10, 2019.
Bobby was a long time employee of Ingram Barge Company where he worked as a tow boat tankerman. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Savannah, Tennessee. Bobby frequently talked on the CB radio under the handle name "Fat Boy" and had base stations in his home and vehicle. He loved gospel music and enjoyed going to eat at Hagy's Catfish Hotel in Shiloh, Tennessee.
Bobby Joe Cherry departed this life on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 12 days.
He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Cherry Avent and her husband David of Whiteville, Tennessee and Pamela Cherry Everett and her husband Corey of Florence, Mississippi; daughter in law, Wanda Cherry of Savannah, Tennessee; sisters, Kate White of Bartlett, Tennessee and Margaret Davis of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee; and 7 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Bobby was preceded in death by his sons, Lynn Cherry and Paul Cherry; sisters, Oneda, Dorothy, Mary, Inez, and Annie Joyce; and brothers, Gilbert and Hershel.
