Cathy Cromwell Rains

July 3, 1949 — March 1, 2018

Mrs. Cathy Cromwell Rains was born July 3, 1949, in Florence, AL, to Dudley and Lucille Cromwell. She leaves behind a brother, Steve, and his wife, Shelly, with their children, Steven, Josh, Spencer, Kerri Anna, and Caleb, along with 7 grandchildren, and another brother Gary, and his partner Lynn. She also leaves a daughter, Wendi and husband, with their four children, and a step daughter Marsha Rains. She also leaves behind a wealth of beloved cousins and family.
She grew up on Patterson Road in Savannah, and attended Savannah North Elementary. She was named Miss CHS of her graduating class at Central High School in 1967.

After high school she started working at Hardin County Hospital as a ward clerk and kept medical records for the doctors, and also worked as a bank teller in the years following. She finished her work career as a Consumer Accountant with TVEC for 32 years, and held most dear to her heart the times and friends she had there.

She grew up in the Savannah Church of Christ where she was baptized in 1961, and remained an active member there her whole life starting the children”s cradle row class, and co-founding the ladies Steel Magnolias group. She especially loved traveling to Gatlinburg yearly with the Mighty Oaks group with her mother, who she took care of faithfully until her death in 2016.

She married the love of her life, Eddie Rains, in October of 1995, with whom she loved spending time walking, riding bikes, reading, traveling, and flea- marketing with, until his sickness followed by his death in October of 2017. They both had servants hearts, always taking care of others. She and Eddie volunteered many years at the Walnut Grove Fish Fry. They loved their neighbors, often doing yard work for the elderly, and taking care of them.
In the community she served on the Hardin County Fair Board for 15 years, serving as secretary/treasurer and director of pageants.

She has always had a love and desire to teach. After retiring from TVEC she taught a senior citizen driving class for AARP, where she touched even more lives in her community than she already had throughout so many years.
Cathy’s daughter, Wendi and husband Kirk Nix, have four children; Katy Carroll, Cole, and the twins-Caroline and Chloe, and a sweet puppy, Micki, who all dearly loved Mimi. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren playing sports, but loved just being Mimi more than anything.

Her life has been a life of serving others, her church, her community, her family and neighbors: a selfless, caring daughter to her mother, devoted sister to her brothers, Steve and Gary, a loving, devoted, giving, Momma to Wendi, and an AMAZING Mimi, not only to her four grandchildren, but to her great nieces, and great nephew. She was Cassis to her nephews, Steven, Josh and Spencer, and was always a good time for them, full of fun and lots of energy!

She has loved her neighbors as herself and has exemplified that in her life. Her greatest advice was to be kind...to be patient, and keep the faith.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity and rejoices without fear of the future” Proverbs 31:25
