Charles Kenneth "Sonny" Tucker, Sr.

Mr. Tucker passed from this life on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, MS.

Church services will be at Golden Hill Church, Ripley, MS, on Monday, September 12, 2022, at 2 pm. Officiants are Bro. Dan Darling and Bro. Daniel Rodgers. Those serving as pall bearers are Nick Gibens, Steve Gibens, Tony Dawson, Baylee Tucker, Jules Trull and Wade Givens. Visitation is at the church beginning at 11 am, Monday. Burial is in the church cemetery.

Born in McNairy County to the late Kenny and Lucille Broadway Tucker, he attended Hardin County Schools and on January 18, 1964, he was united in marriage to Sheila Coln, who survives. In 1968, the couple moved to DeSoto County, MS and lived there 34 years before settling in Dumas, MS in 2002. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Christian Nicole Tucker Nix; and two sisters, Martha Goyn and Loullia Dawson.

Mr. Tucker worked primarily as diesel mechanic for various motor lines including Ozark, for 21 years, and White Trucks. He also was a heavy equipment operator. After he and Mrs. Tucker married, he worked for Pickwick Cove Marina. A talented man who could master almost any task he set out to accomplish, he worked in construction all over the Mid-South area and could make repairs and installations as a plumber, electrician and carpenter. He used those talents to help his church, Golden Hill Church near Dumas, with any project they needed done from installing new cabinets in the fellowship hall to cooking for church dinners.

An avid deer hunter, he enjoyed working in his yard on his John Deer mower and NASCAR races, where he followed his favorite driver, Kyle Busch. He and his buddy, Wade Givens, did almost everything together from their youths until the present day.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Sheila Tucker of Dumas, MS; his daughter, Kim (Steve) Gibens of Dumas; his son, Charles Kenneth "Ken" Tucker, Jr., also of Dumas; two sisters, Mamie (Jeff) Welch of Savannah and Patsy (Audrey) Scott of Savannah; one brother, Delbert (Doris) Tucker of Counce; three grandchildren, Baylee P. Tucker, Nick Gibens and Ally Trull; and three great-grandchildren, Caylee, Cayson and Bella Nix.
