Charles Perry Brown

Charles Perry Brown passed from this life following a lengthy illness on May 22, 2022, at the
Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt, TN.

Charlie was born in Waldo, FL. on January 16, 1936, to George and Jewel Rose Brown and spent his younger years in Hartford, IL. Following his father's death during WWII, his family moved to Bolivar, TN in 1948. In 1954 Charlie served as the President of his senior class at Bolivar Central High School. Upon
graduation, he entered the United States Army serving in the veterinary Corp and spent 2 years
at his favorite posting, Paris, France. Charlie received his Bachelor's Degree from Memphis
State University, and served as the President of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Later at the University of
Tennessee in Knoxville, he would earn his Master's Degree.

An advocate for education, Charlie's career included teaching at Bolivar Central High School,
assistant principal of College Park High School in College Park, GA. and educational tutor for
HOLIDAY ON ICE. Following his travels abroad, he returned to Bolivar to teach at his alma
mater, ultimately being appointed Principal. After retirement he was appointed to the Board of
Education in Hardeman County as Director of Attendance.

Charlie was a long-time member of St. James Episcopal Church in Bolivar where he served as
treasurer and vestry member. He served as the president of the Association of Preservation of
Tennessee Antiquities (Hardeman County Chapter), member of the Rotary Club, and as
president of the Retired Teachers Association of Hardeman County.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jewel Rose Brown and brother
Donald Forrest Brown. He is survived by his sister Marjorie Joanne Brown Scott along with
many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

A memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Bolivar Tennessee Saturday
July 16, 2022 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Charles P. Brown Scholarship Fund
through St. James Episcopal Church would be greatly appreciated.
