Charlotte Garner Naylor

Charlotte Anne Garner Naylor was born April 23, 1937 to Clyde Eugene and Audrey Lee Hart Garner in Lexington, Tennessee. She was raised in the Garnertown community. Charlotte graduated from Lexington High School in 1956. She moved to Nashville and worked in an office while living with cousins Wanda and Bernice. In 1957, she married Glenn Woodrow Naylor. While Glenn was serving overseas, Charlotte worked in the Department of Human Services office in Jackson. When Glenn returned, they moved to Memphis where she continued to work for Human Services in Memphis. In 1973, the family moved to Chester County where they built a house in the Finger community. Charlotte was active in her children’s lives. She volunteered in Girl Scouts, sports, cheerleading, and school.

In 1978, Charlotte began working as a clerk for Casey Office Supply. Then in September of 1978 she was hired as secretary for County Executive Neal Smith, and she worked for him for 8 years. She worked for Smith’s successor Anthony Bolton for 12 years, and then Troy Kilzer, Sr., for 3 years before she retired in 2001. During the 1980s when Goldsmith’s opened a location in Jackson, she began working there part time, and she continued to work for them once they became Macy’s until she retired in 2016.

Charlotte was a volunteer for the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and the March of Dimes.

Charlotte was well-known for her bright and cheery personality. She loved laughing, joking, and dressing well and wearing large jewelry and eyeglasses. Charlotte was a great cook, often taking food to the sick and bereaved. She cooked for her co-workers and many others. She enjoyed cooking for her family and hosting them often. Charlotte loved her family more than anything. She will be remembered as a classy, Southern lady.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Penny Garner Hancock (1974) and her husband, Glenn Naylor (2018).

Charlotte is survived by her son, Anthony (Beth) Naylor, daughter Lisa Naylor, sister Shelby Garner (Jim) Bolden, grandsons Mitch (Abby) Naylor and Carson (Madison) Naylor, and special nephews Jay Hancock, Dalton Hancock, and Dylan Hancock and sister-in-law Sue Naylor Wright.

The family thanks Southern Oaks Assisted Living staff for their compassionate care and professionalism.

Visitation with the family will be Friday, July 30, 11 am - 1 pm. Funeral services will be at Crook Avenue Chapel at 1 pm with Ken Frye officiating. The family requests that all please observe social distances for optimum safety. Masks are not required.

Interment will be at Chapel Hill Baptist Church at Garnertown. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Chapel Hill Cemetary Fund c / o Bobby Butler, 221 Belle Meade, Lexington, TN 38351; or Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
