Chester Carnell Rowland, Sr. departed this life on December 17, 2014 in Selmer, TN at the age of 79 Years, 4 Months, 8 Days. He born August 9, 1935 in Bethel Springs, TN the son of the late Ulys P. and Bertha Armour Rowland.
He was united in marriage to Erma Jones Rowland. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2012.
Mr. Rowland retired as Director of Laboratory and Xray at the McNairy County Hospital where he was employed from 1962 until 2003. He was a member of Selmer First Baptist Church. Carnell was a graduate of Selmer High School and was very athletic having played football, basketball, and baseball. He received a football scholarship to the University of Tennessee at Martin. He served in the National Guard, was a former President of the Selmer Jaycees, a former member of the Selmer Zoning Committee and the McNairy County Historical Society. His hobbies were beekeeping, golfing, hunting, fishing, woodwork, and carpentry.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jo Rowland of Olathe, KS; two sons, Chester Carnell Rowland, Jr. of Guys, TN, John Alan Rowland of Selmer, TN; 8 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren; three brothers, Frank Rowland, Jimmy Rowland, Marty Rowland, and a host of extended family and friends.
