Clarence Vickery, Jr. departed this life on Sunday, August 2, 2020, at the age of 84 years, 4 months, and 4 days. He was born in Wayne County, Tennessee on March 29, 1936, the son of the late Clarence and Ethel White Vickery. On June 21, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mary Sue Franks, who survives.
Clarence served as a Corporal in the United States Army. He was inducted into the Army on December 10, 1958. After finishing basic training, he was stationed in Germany for 18 months, returning to the states on November 25, 1960. Clarence returned to active duty to serve from December 8, 1961, until August 11, 1962, due to the Berlin Crisis. He received his honorable discharge from the Army on November 30, 1964, after 2 years and 8 months of service.
Clarence attended Cornerstone Baptist Church and was a member of Olivet Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Woodman Life, and NRA. He retired from the Hardin County Highway Department and had previously worked for the Savannah Utility in Savannah, Tennessee and Revill Construction in Union City, Tennessee. He loved to hunt and fish.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mary Sue Vickery of Savannah, Tennessee; Clarence is survived by his son, Dennis Paul Vickery and his wife Angie of Adairsville, Georgia; granddaughter, Carrie Anne Vickery; sister, Laura Marie Vickery Franks and her husband Billy Ray of Lutts, Tennessee; brother, Jimmy D. Vickery and his wife Cindy of Savannah, Tennessee; and sister-in-law, Betty Whiten and her husband Tom of Nashville, Tennessee.
Along with his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard Lewis Vickery and William Edward "Bill" Vickery; and sister, Emma Lois Vickery Stricklin and her husband O.C.
