Claudie Newman "Scratch" Cox was born January 26, 1940 in Woodville, TN, the son of the late James Robert and Rosie Arlie Hodge Cox. He served as a police office for 20 plus years in Selmer, Bolivar and Burnsville, MS where Claudie also served as constable. He owned Claudie's BBQ in Bolivar, TN. He enjoyed gardening, raising bird dogs, talking with people, tinkering with tractors and old vehicles.
Mr. Cox departed this life on September 8, 2017 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 77 Years, 7 Months, 13 Days.
He is survived by his children: Debbie Franks and husband Billy of Savannah, TN, Johnny Cox of Stantonville, TN, Patty Treadway and husband Doug of Unicoi, TN; a brother, Chester Cox of Bethel Springs, TN; three grandchildren: Steven Burcham of Glen, MS, Mikayla Treadway Rice and husband Logan of Unicoi, TN, Trenton Newman Treadway of Unicoi, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cox was preceded in death by four sisters: Tressie Fortune, Pat Whitman, Susanna Cox Greer and Marilyn Patterson; three brothers: James Jerald Cox, Robert Shelby Cox and Erwin Moisen Cox; and a half brother, Udell Hodge.
