Clyde Allen Tull

January 8, 1938 — December 15, 2020

Clyde Allen Tull was born at home in Woodville, Tennessee on January 8, 1938 to the late Buford and Effie Cox Tull. He grew up working on the family farm and loved to hunt and play baseball. After graduating from Chester County High School, he attended UT Martin for two years, where he played on the baseball team. After college, he moved to Wilmington, Illinois where he began his career as a welder. Later, he joined Local 798 pipefitters union, traveling to many parts of the country as a pipeline welder. This included spending two summers working on the Trans-Alaskan pipeline.

Clyde was united in marriage to Jeanne Kiestler on October 24, 1964. In 1971, they returned to McNairy County where he briefly taught vocational classes and welding at McNairy Central while beginning his farming career. He was a row-crop farmer, raising corn and soybeans.  He enjoyed working with the agricultural extension office testing new seeds to increase crop yields, as well as participating in early trials of no-till farming.  He was a firm believer in working hard and made working hard fun by challenging himself to do his best as he experimented with new ideas.

He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Using his work ethic and experience, he enjoyed serving others by helping with construction and repairs. He loved spending time with his family, especially, while eating homemade ice cream and playing cards and dominoes. Attending church singings, shooting skeet, hunting turkey and deer, training bird dogs and raising and hunting quail were also some of his favorite pastimes.

Mr. Tull departed this life on December 15, 2020 at Reynolds Hospice House, Collierville, Tennessee at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jeanne Kiestler Tull; a daughter Debbie Jordan and husband Jeff of Eads, Tennessee; a son, David Tull and wife Christy of Henderson, Tennessee; two sisters, Rosalyn Weaver of Henderson, Tennessee and Ina Lee Cooper and husband Max of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia; six grandchildren, Jeffery Jordan, Jr. of Nashville, Tennessee, Joshua Jordan of Nashville, Tennessee, Claire Jordan of Memphis, Tennessee, Jonathan Jordan of Eads, Tennessee, Caroline Jordan of Eads, Tennessee and Catherine Jordan of Eads, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tull was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Isaac Patrick and Etta Hatch Cox; paternal grandparents, Jasper and Mary Dee Hendrix Tull; brother, Glenn Tull of Selmer, Tennessee; father and mother in-law, Elbert Harmon “Rip” and Imogene Kiestler.
