David Kanavel of Bethel Springs, TN departed this life on November 15, 2013 at his home at the age of 79 Years, 9 Months, 12 Days. He was born February 3, 1934 in Jackson, TN the son of the late Charles Glen and Iva Marie Sword Kanavel.
Mr. Kanavel was an eight year United States Air Force Veteran having served from the ending of the Korean War until the beginning of the Vietnam War. He served in Germany and France and spent two of his eight years of service with the USAF Thunderbirds in Nevada.
After his Air Force service, David moved to Florida and began a 25 year career as an Insurance Agent with Union State Insurance Company. In 1986 he and his wife Bonnie moved from Winter Springs, FL to Bethel Springs, TN where they have lived for the past 27 years.
David was a member of Maggie Jones United Methodist Church. He was a former Leapwood Fire Department Volunteer and along with his wife owned and operated a General Store and Restaurant in Leapwood for six years. Once a month, they would have various local musicians, such as Wayne Jerrolds, to perform at the store. He was a wonderful father figure who genuinely loved children and was loved back by every child that ever met him. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie L. Kanavel of Bethel Springs, TN; two daughters, Kelly Nicholas and husband Ryan of Jacksonville, FL, Kathryn McNeill (Tim) of Jacksonville, FL; two sons, Mark Kanavel and fiancee Amber Benge of Bethel Springs, TN, Charles Matthew Kanavel and wife Marylouise of Bethel Springs, TN; two sisters, Peggy Towers of Sanford, FL, Polly Burgess of Sanford, FL; a brother, Bobby Kanavel of St. Petersburg, FL; eleven grandchildren, Christian Shaw Kanavel, Corey Matthew Kanavel, Damion Kanavel, Jami Kanavel, Callie Kanavel, Ryan McNeill, Kyleigh McNeill, Skylyn McNeill, Christopher Nicholas, Alana Kanavel, Alexis Benge. A host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Kanavel was preceded in death by his grandmother, Anna Belle Sword, who raised him; two brothers, Jack Kanavel, Charles Junior Kanavel.
