Mr. Vandevander passed away early Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
A native of Guntown, MS, he was the son of the late Betty Cox and James Vandevander, Sr. and grew up around Bolivar. He was a 1991 graduate of Bolivar Central High School and had worked at Cooper Tires for five years while living in Tupelo, MS. He had also resided in Selmer and Hornsby before settling in Savannah a little over a year ago. Mr. Vandevander was a supervisor for Phillips 66 (formerly known as Spectrum) for 22 1/2 years. David served his community as a volunteer firefighter.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed camping, canoeing, riding whitewater rapids on the Buffalo River and playing paint ball with his son. He was fond of spending nights with his sister at her home.
He leaves his fiance', Dixie Smith of Savannah; son, Matt Vandevander (Kay) of Selmer; granddaughter, Kennedy, also of Selmer; sister, Patricia Kee of Saltillo, MS; brother, James Vandevander (Machelle), also of Saltillo; and many close friends.
