Doris Jean Howell, 81, passed from this life Tuesday, February 8 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
She was born in Bolivar, the daughter of the late Carl Dowdy and Rebecca Vandiver Dowdy Skinner and live most of her life in Madison County before settling in Henderson. She was married to Thomas Henson from 1959 until his death in 1983. Then, in 1984, she married William H. "Bill" Howell, who survives.
Mrs. Howell had worked for Master Slack in Bolivar, Action Apparel in Ramer and retired from Bemis Cotton Mill/TN Textiles after 28 years of service. A quiet and humble lady, she was a great cook and enjoyed flower gardening in her leisure time. She was Baptist in belief.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a sister, Carlene Grantham of Bartlett; a brother, Jerry Dowdy of Medon; a step-daughter, Anita (Terry) Sanders of Jackson; three step-sons, James (Tammy) Howell of Selmer, Lynn Howell of Middleton, and Brandy Locke of Huntingdon; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
