Doris Lucille King Hight, age 89, of Bolivar, Tennessee departed this life on Friday, August 7, 2020 at NHC Healthcare in Somerville.
Born to the Late Beulah Mae Berry King and the late Cass Lafayette King of Robeline, Louisiana on May 13, 1931, Doris was the oldest of nine children. She graduated from Marthaville High School in 1948 at the age of 17.
She worked at South Central Bell for 36 years, working her way up to Assistant Manager when she retired. Doris was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. Then she worked at Memphis State University as a Bookkeeper in the ticketing office and became a member of the University Career Women.
Doris was active in United Methodist Women and later becoming President of the West Tennessee district. She was an avid seamstress, cook and most remembered for her homemade strawberry cakes.
Doris was preceded in death by the love of her life of 63 years Loyd Thomas Hight. She is survived by a daughter Cathy Hornsby Frost (Stephen) of Bolivar, Tennessee; a son Thomas King Hight of Belton, South Carolina; two brothers, Jerry Wayne King (Pat) of Mooringsport, Louisiana and Carl Joseph King (Carol) of Shreveport, Louisiana; three sisters Shirley King Brown (Freddie) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Patsy King Atkins (Rodney) of Keithville, Louisiana, and Barbara King Wallace of Shreveport, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Erin Hornsby Holcomb (Craig) of Nashville, Tennessee, Brian Thomas Hight (Mandie) of Greenville, South Carolina, Brandon Lee Hight of Greenville, South Carolina and Jordan Hight Barton (Brandon) of Anderson, South Carolina; and two great grandchildren, Elias Jaxx Barton and Serri Barton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers Cass Lafayette King, Jr. and James William King; a sister Virginia King Freeman; a brother-in-law John Walter Wallace; and two nephews James (Jimmy) Walter Wallace and Jerry Wayne King, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Bolivar First United Methodist Church.
