Dorothy Olene Prater Harris

January 21, 1927 — November 9, 2018

Dorothy Olene Prater Harris departed this life on Friday, November 9, 2018, at the age of 91 years, 9 months, and 19 days. She was born in Iuka, Mississippi, on January 21, 1927, and raised on a farm in Clifton, Tennessee, the daughter of the late William King and Lillian Lee Prine Prater.

Dorothy grew up in a musical family; though she couldn't play an instrument herself, she sure enjoyed dancing and took every opportunity to "cut a rug". With a couple of her friends, she once recorded a song, "The Rapture". In her lifetime, she lived in several places including Missouri, Illinois, Louisiana, and eventually settled in Savannah, Tennessee in 1985. Country and gospel music were her favorite, and she was a huge Elvis fan. Dorothy was a true homemaker at heart; she always kept a spotless home and cooked the best meals. She enjoyed flower gardening and loved all animals, especially wild birds and squirrels that she always put food out for.

She is survived by her children, Judy Smith of Savannah, Tennessee and Terry Smith of New Bloomfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Jimmy Doyle, Patricia Doyle Kincer, Leslie Rossman, Joe Hebert and his wife Tonya, April Doyle, Bobbie Wren, and Cherel Doyle; great grandchildren, Brennan Doyle, Catharyn Casteel, Payton Hebert, Cailyn Rossman, Colby Skelton, and Justin White; and great-great grandchildren, Madison and Rowdy White.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her children, Don Doyle, and Bobby Doyle and his wife Nancy Catharyn Worley; sisters, Willie Mae Alley, Bonnie Lee Prater, and Rachel Hutchinson; brothers, Howard Prater, William Edgar Prater, Terrell Prater, Dillard Prater, John Keeton Prater, Jim Prater, Lon Prater, Don Prater, and an infant brother; and her previous husbands and fathers of her children, Bentley Doyle and Frank Smith.

The family wishes to extended a special thank you to her HMC Rehab family who cared for her and loved her like she was one of their own.

Memorial donations can be sent to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10001.

Pallbearers, grandson, Joe Hebert; great grandchildren, Brennan Doyle, Payton Hebert, and Cailyn Rossman; and two of her wonderful nurses, Jacob Holloway and Casey Scott.
