Dorothy Ruth Brock

May 3, 1930 — May 10, 2020

Mrs. Brock, age 90, of Hickory Valley, passed from this life on Sunday morning, May 10, 2020.

The daughter of the late K. C. and Rosa Mae Simpson Achord, she was born in Memphis, graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, TX in 1949 (where she lived for approximately 10 years), and married Mr. Harold L. Brock on Tuesday, May 1, 1951. Mr. Brock passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 after 59 years of marriage. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Andrew Achord.

Mrs. Brock worked as switchboard operator at WMHI in Bolivar for over 30 years, retiring in 1996. Many times, her co-workers commented how her 'smile' was the highlight of their day. When she left Western, Mrs. Brock took a trip to the Bahamas and bought herself a new truck to celebrate. She was a faithful member of the West Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Bible School and, on Wednesday evenings, was active with Awana Club mentoring young people in discipleship.

Mrs. Brock was a talented seamstress and used her abilities to serve her community for many years. A wonderful cook, her Thanksgiving meals were famous for taking several days to prepare and are fondly remembered by her family. She was a loving wife to Mr. Brock and steadfastly cared for him the last years of his life as he struggled with Parkinson's Disease.

In her leisure time she enjoyed hummingbirds, flowers, gardening along side her husband, shopping, yard sales and trips to First Monday in Ripley, MS.

She leaves her daughter, Pam Brock of Hickory Valley; her son, Bill Brock (Patricia) of Lewisburg; two grandsons, Andrew Tigner (Candy) of Hickory Valley and Aaron Tigner (Tamara) of Hornsby; and four great-granddaughters, Kayla, Lily, Madison and Ruby Tigner.

Memorials may be sent to the West Memorial Cemetery Fund.
