Doug Cotten, 74, of Medon, departed this life early Thursday morning, August 29, 2019 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The husband of Sue T. Cotten, who survives, he was a retired Tennessee State Trooper, having served for 25 years, working in Shelby County for 15 years and then in Hardeman County for 10 years. He had also worked as a law enforcement officer for Bells, Tennessee and as a security officer for Pictsweet. He was born November 19, 1944 in Dyer County, son of the late David Marion Cotten and Theda Mildred Duncan Cotten and spent his retirement years in Hardeman County. He married the former Sue Taylor Cotten on July 5, 1997 and enjoyed being with his family, experiencing the outdoors, shooting his firearms, and talking, especially on his cell phone. He was a Christian and believed in God.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Mark Cotten of Memphis and Todd Cotten of Friendship, TN; a stepdaughter, Jill Helton of Jackson; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Deborah Estes Johnson on April 8, 2019.
