Dudley Bryan Kennedy, Sr.
July 22, 1936 — September 6, 2017
Mr. Dudley Bryan Kennedy, Sr., age 81 of Bolivar, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The son of the late Aura and Eunice Towery Kennedy, he was born in Smithville, MS and moved to Bolivar over 50 years ago. He was a 1954 graduate of Smithville High School where he played basketball. On November 12, 1960, he was united in marriage to Janette Kennedy who survives.
Mr. Kennedy served in the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. He was a radio operator on helicopters reading Morse Code transmissions. A Christian in belief and avid Bible reader, he worked as shipping foreman at Master Slack in Bolivar for 33 years. In his leisure time, he enjoyed running, fishing, hunting, lawn work and generally being outdoors. He also enjoyed bluegrass gospel music and the Gaithers. Several times a year, Mr. Kennedy and his family would make trips to Panama City Beach, FL. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughter, Cynthia Lane Kennedy of Jackson; his son, Dudley Bryan Kennedy, Jr. (Brenda) of Bolivar; his step-son, Marlin Glen Flurry of Bolivar; his sister, Bettie Devine Kennedy of Destin, FL; his brother, Thomas Riley Kennedy of Columbus, MS; three grandchildren, Brian Heath Kennedy, Daniel Cleveland Kennedy and Amanda Lois Kennedy; and two step-grandchildren, Adam Shane Flurry and Shelby Danielle Flurry.
