Edgar Wesley Jobe

Edgar Wesley “Wes” Jobe, died peacefully in his home near Clifton, Tennessee, on April 26, 2018, due to complications from congestive heart failure. He was 87. Wesley Jobe was born in Clifton on September 29, 1930, to Edgar “Eck” and Minnie (Culp) Jobe. He was a 1949 graduate of Frank Hughes High School, and completed two years of college at UT Martin. A veteran of the Korean War, he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of twenty, and served his country from July 1951 until his honorable discharge in July 1955. In 1957 he wed Nell Unsell of Camden, Tennessee, and they were married for 46 years until her death in 2003. Together they raised three sons and a daughter.
Wesley was an engineer for Lincoln Brass Works in Waynesboro, Tennessee, for most of his career, and he also maintained a working farm for the better part of his life. He was a member of the Clifton Church of Christ for over 48 years and served as an elder of the church there for many of those years. Faith and family were the most important things to him throughout his life. He was admired and respected by everyone who knew him well as a model of honesty, integrity, and character.
Mr. Jobe is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Charles and Keri Jobe, of Nashville; son Eddie Jobe, of Santa Cruz, CA; daughter, Kristy Jobe Risener, of Clifton; and grandchildren Laurel and Matthew Jobe. Preceding him in death were his sister, Eula Steele (2000), granddaughter Heather Jobe (2001), wife Nell (2003), and son John (2015).
Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, May 5, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Home in Waynesboro. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 6, 3:00 p.m. at the Clifton Church of Christ, with another brief visitation opportunity beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the church immediately prior to the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Jobe’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Clifton Church of Christ Honduras Outreach Mission are welcomed.
