Mr. Eugene B. Harris, age 88 of Middleton, Tennessee, passed from this life Wednesday morning, January 31, 2018 at Bolivar General Hospital.
A native of Lambert, MS, he was the son of the late Eugene Wesley and Hettie Arminda Gray Harris. Mr. Harris retired in 1993 after 32 years at DuPont as an industrial mechanic. He had lived in Memphis and Millington before moving to Hardeman County four years ago. On October 17, 1950, he married Sara Anthony who survives following 67 years of marriage. Mr. Harris served his country in the US Navy aboard ship from 1947 - 1951 and was eye witness to three different atomic bomb test blasts in the Pacific Ocean.
He was a faithful member of the Middleton First Baptist Church where he had formerly served as a deacon. A strong believer in The Lord, he was a Christ-follower and a man of few words.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Sharon H. (J. MIchael) Johnson of Middleton; his son, Michael E. (Sandra L.) Harris of Middleton; his sister, Dorothy Edwards of Georgia; his two brothers, Aubrey Harris of Glen Allan, MS and J. Larry (Linda) Harris of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, Jason McFarland, Christina (Curt) Bicknell, Jared B. (DeDe) McFarland, Alan (Karie) Harris and Audrey (Greg) Hodge; six great-grandchildren, Madison, Morgan and Dylan Hodge, Brooke and Brody Harris, and Eli McFarland; three step-grandchildren, Wynne Jordan Keas, Alec Johnson and Barbara Hagarty; and seven step-great-grandchildren, Alex, Robyn, Margaret and Jude Jordan and Daniel, J. J. and Christiana Keas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Bevell and Joanna Price.
