    Gerald Garland Whitten of Adamsville

    September 22, 1937 - June 20, 2022

    GARLAND WHITTEN Adamsville, TN: Gerald Garland Whitten, age 84, passed away Monday June 20, 2022 at Adamsville Healthcare. He was born September 22, 1937 in McNairy County and reared in Chester County, the son of the late Nathan Elver and Wilma Gertrude Hurst Whitten. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1957. After graduation he served in the Air Force for a brief period of time. He worked at Hunter Fan in Memphis, Milan Arsenal and then Sonoco in Henderson. He married Donna Chandler in 1995. He worked at Proctor and Gamble in Jackson until he retired. He made his home in Adamsville since 1997. After he retired he loved playing golf. He attended bird dog trails at Ames Plantation. He enjoyed bird hunting. He loved college football and was a UT fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR. He had been a member at Little Hatchie Primitive Baptist Church for over 50 years and often led congregational singing. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Janice Etta Whitten. He is survived by his wife, Donna Whitten; daughter, Robin Galvan of Houston, TX; two step daughters, Kim Marshall and Amy Marshall both of Adamsville; a brother, Charles Whitten of Jackson; one grandchild, Ashley Zimmerman; and two great grandchildren, Mekhi and Zayden. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Little Hatchie with Elder Charles Whitten and Elder Steve Leggett officiating. Burial will follow at Little Hatchie Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday and 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM service time Thursday at the church.
